DALLA$ MARKET
Happy January! Happy back to school! Happy everyone dead of winter, there’s no new clothes in the store, everyone‘s go-to is 5 layers just to stay warm…
In these dead winter months, you might notice your favorite retailers close to absolutely dry of any new, eye catching products. And what I suppose makes up for their empty shelves is the abundance of sale racks. I love a good sale, but I’m talking about the same ol, same ol styles we’ve been seeing since August.
If you’re like me, all of that is good for a bit but then you start awaiting the sight of what’s to come, the newest finds and trends, what everyone will be wearing in the up and coming months.
I am so, so grateful I randomly got the opportunity to attend my first Market trip. Market is large convention center sized event where allllll the vendors come and have samples of their current and future items for boutiques and small businesses to place orders. I got to go to Dallas Market, at the Dallas World Trade Center with InMotion, a local boutique in Fayetteville.
Though school started back up this past Monday, my friend and fellow apparel major Tatum and I left after classes Tuesday night and arrived in Dallas around midnight. We went to Market from 8:30AM to past 6PM (when they closed for the night) all day Wednesday, and turned around and came home Thursday in time for class again, ha. The quickest trip but one I learned so much and gained so much inspiration that I can’t wait to take with me in these next few months with blogging but also in my potential career later down the road after graduation.
Mainly I’m writing this blog post for my own documentation of something I got so much out of, but also I’d love to share a few trends I picked up at and solidified while helping the owners of In Motion pick out summer and game day pieces (Fay being a college town :P).
BLAZER SETS//NEON. I love a good set, and I love allll the colors, so blazer sets are the perfect choice. Shorts with an oversized blazer in a matching color will be perfect in the Springtime for a dressy event. I think it’s safe to say color isn’t going anywhere soon, and I am so happy w that w my wardrobe haha.
COW PRINT. I LOVE THIS. Like really. Hi Anna Grace Newell, haha. I am not very country or do anything that requires any excessive amount of denim and rhinestones and metal and leather, but I have seen that the country chic look is making its way in our fashion hearts. Whether it be the chunky jewelry-chain belts, extra large belt buckles, leather on leather // denim on denim, and last but not least cow print. I hadn’t heard of L&B, but this is the name of the brand of the cattle print pants of my dreams :’)
CHANNEL // TWEED. Last semester I had to take an apparel class, Quality Assessment and one of our final projects was to create a Silhouette notebook when we had to search and find about 50+ different timeless styles of clothing and shoes in fashion magazines. One style was the Channel Jacket, and that was one of the easier styles to find just because of how relevant they were in the latest high fashion magazines. Channel jackets are typically out of tweed, mixing a lighter with a darker color in the woven, preppy, Blair Waldorf, Coco Channel vibe. I found tweed sets and Channel jackets at market to be bought for trendy small businesses, and I love a good matching set, and LOVE this tweedtrend.
GRAPHIC TEES. They are here to stay! But, I noticed the cutest, more original, and best quality were where the actual tees had an acid dye effect and were structured where they could be sold as unisex. I’ve heard and seen in the past few years on trend products are moving more and more to the unisex fit, and definitely see that with the graphic tee trend. Rips are always a plus, as well as oversized to fit as a tunic or dress.
