bye 2020!
HI
LONG POST ALERT
So I never really actually write blog posts, and when I do they aren’t actually writey written posts, if that makes sense. But, I have felt so, so satisfied and grateful and content over the past year I have had. If I had a resolution of last year, I think it must have been saying yes to more opportunities and just simply doing more things. And I definitely did that. I decided I wanted to write a rather lengthy somewhat summary over what my year consisted of, and though this is still missing quite a bit here is peak into my 2020. Things got messy and uncertain, and I don’t always show the negatives in life through my social media as I use social media as just a creative outlet for my hobbies. A happy place if you will. But anyways, here’s to changing it up, yet being more consistent, and to being grateful for the good and the bad and the good again.
Also, the cover pic for this post is not my usual pic, as it barely shows any detail, it’s not a full outfit pic, but it shows me deciding last minute to somehow squeeze in a 24 hour trip by myself to Dallas to see some friends for New Years, go to a cute coffee shop, meet new people and not be shy Maggie. It’s me wearing a piece I was graciously gifted for doing what I love, creating content, me in orange, and me with coffee in a cute place. Hopefully 2021 brings more of this Maggie, who works hard for what she wants but will appreciate the tiredness, uncertainty, or not perfect moments of life!
January:
Starting off 2020, Tom and I brought in 2020 together in Fayetteville. I went to SMC, a student ministry conference in Oklahoma City with my freshman roommate Halle. This was my first push out of my comfort zone and a really good start to 2020. Within the first week back at school, I got the opportunity to attend my first market, the market in Dallas, with Fayetteville boutique InMotion. This was an amazing experience. I worked at BCBG Max Adria pad in Dillard’s and planned and saved for NYFW in early February. I last minute went hunting, my first time ever, in Lonoke, AR with a few of my bestest friends. Quite out of the ordinary for our crew lol.
February:
I flew by myself, well without family, for the first time headed to my first fully self-funded trip. A few of my Apparel friends and I booked and planned a trip to New York City during fashion week to attend a show. This is something I’m still so proud of for funding myself. Tom and I, plus our friends Matt and Emily, did our first road trip to their fraternity’s formal in Austin, TX. NYC and ATX are probably my favorite places in the world, so February was a good good month. But, behind the scenes I started struggling with a lot of skin issues and started the process of trying to figure out how to deal with dermatitis. Worked a lot and saw really pretty dusk skylines getting off work late at the mall. Baseball season started! Started very early plans on what we would think Recrutiment 2020 would look like in August as I held the position of Director of Recrutiment Events, but little did we know things would change and change all the way up until and during actual recrutiment week.
March:
I decided to attend Kaleo, a summer student ministry program in Destin, FL, for summer 2020. We had Moms day with my sorority thennnn covid wrecked everyone’s plans. within two weeks school was shut down and we were sent home to finish the rest of the semester via zoom, and at the same time my job told us to not come until they knew what to do to handle this. My skin was starting to get better! Like everywhere else in the world, no one knew what was going on. I continued not knowing if I would be able to go back to work, revamped my home bedroom seeing as I would be there for a bit, and ended March in uncertainties andddd Tom and I broke up.
April:
Lots of waiting, as everyone else everywhere. Still uncertain about making enough $ for my summer plans, I cancelled my Kaleo plans. Kept waiting! Kept doing school from home! DIYed some smiley face shorts. DIYed designer coffee. DIYed some inside photo shoots at home with table cloths and newspaper backgrounds. Tiedyed. Went on walks and started wearing masks. Worked on recrutiment plans with phone calls to vendors and power points and excel sheets. Did some collaborations I’m proud of!
May:
Started seeing a few more friends. Floated a Missouri river. Drove to Fort Worth for a weekend. Desperately tried to find an internship to do for the summer seeing that I no longer was to go to Kaleo. Started realizing I might not get my job back sooo started freaking out as I am always the type to be working. I like staying busy and I like making my own money soooo anxiety twas rising. And on top of that my skin kept fluctuating and was bad then good then worse :D. Got the BEST news though as I was accepted to be a social media intern with local boutique Masons. I also struggled to figure out last minute summer school classes, and got into biology and accounting and data, three kinda not fun classes for me.
June:
BLM! Learned and educated myself on what goes on in the world. Started applying to barista jobs as I have always been a coffee addict and thought while things were the least of my expectations, when else is a better time to try something new I’ve always been interested in? Started feeling a bit more productive in my somewhat heavy load of summer classes. Interning was a dream! I went in three times a week to create and produce content for social media. Drove all the way to Austin just for a weekend to float the Comal River and stay in an air bnb to celebrate a friends birthday. Loooong drive but was so worth it.
July:
Started a few new ambassadorships, kept trucking with biology, ended accounting only to start data. A few friends came into town (yay). My skin was better! Ended the month by spontaneously going on a 22 hour road trip down to Lakeland, FL with my good friend Natalie, who I’m so thankful to have grown so close to through 2020, to see our friend Olivia who moved down there. We stopped on the way at the Hawaiian ChickFilA in Georgia. Stayed in FL and went from the west to east coast. Visited Orlando. Lots of coffee shops, açaí, vegan meals, shopping, and so much happiness. Natalie and I did our summer school homework every night lol. Continued doing lots of recrutiment planning! This trip might be my fav ever just because of the spontaneity and happiness it gave me. We road tripped back on the last day of July and even pitt stopped at the Final Cut. Finished up my classes, and by that I got the credit I needed and that was that!
August:
Finished up last minute, I thought, preparations for Recruitment 2020 as it was nearing. Applied to a couple fall semester internships as my summer internship was over. Kept up with a few ambassadorships. Moved back into Tri Delt for my second year of living in the house early with the recrutiment team. Hand painted greek yard letters, ran errands, met with vendors, did behind the scenes work all through work week for each days in person activities to be cancelled. Got maybe two hours of sleep the last night of recrutiment going into bid day. After 1 week of school my friends I was in close contact with tested positive and though I tested negative I had to quarantine at home in springdale. Started a job at Starbucks! Got accepted to intern at Skye on the Town!
September:
Had to stay at home due to exposure for a couple of weeks, but my roommate and I visited our friend Kendall in Tulsa over Labor Day Weekend. My roommate Grace is another big blessing of 2020 as we have hit it off and even living together next year. Her birthday was in September which started the reoccurring lists of events for 21st bdays this junior year of school. We celebrated her birthday via brunch and an outdoor picnic soiree in my backyard. Did a koch photo shoot. Hometown dated to Fort Smith w my bestie Emily. A few game days celebrated at game watching bar restaurants. Interned with Skye doing super fun try ons where I got to take outfit pics wherever I wanted and however I wanted, which was so so cool to me to see someone trust my ability to create.
October:
Bday month! My turn now! October is always my fav month so I wanted to make sure it was full of good things. Continued a couple more ambassadorships and collaborations like with Coreopsis, Hazel and Olive, Fringe, and RiffRaff. Continued creating for Skye in their new location. Started experimenting with new urban street wear kinda styles by getting more into neutrals. Wore low rise jeans, Buffalo sneakers, and my purchases from my newfound love Urban Gap- sweater sleeves and the infamous houndstooth vest. Oh and Tom and I had been friends again for a while now annnnnd started being offish or whatevs around here. Things r so good! Found a fake Kanye birthday sweatshirt to ring in my birthday with my fam, went to my first bar legally the eve of my birthday dressed as Wanda from the fairly odd parents, and had a really really great October 31st. My best friend Emily threw me the greatest party and still so thankful for my thoughtful friends for all they did to me :’) tears lol
November:
Woooorked. Skye. School. Celebrated my best friend Cournteys bday for like four days straight, then a couple more 21st birthdays the following week. Courtney stayed with me the first few days of Thanksgiving break and Tom Courtney and I got to do fun things around NWA and Bville. Spent Thanksgiving socially distanced from our usual fam that comes, missed them. Ended November with a Lorelei and Rory moment with my mom on a day trip to Tulsa to eat at Roosevelts.
December:
Lots of fun! A few weeks of school and lots to cram in with friends. Got Moonboots haha. Went to holiday bars! Which was sooo fun I love cutesy drinks. We got a lot of snow! Got to wear my Bershka x Smiley puffer finally. Grace and I took holiday pics, celebrated our bestie Allison’s 21st, took some friends home to decorate sugar cookies. Tom and I attempted to go to a tree farm and it was closed ha. We did go to Little Rock for a weekend tho! Ended finals and the next morning got my wisdom teeth, a little over due haha. Tom stayed around to watch shows with me while I was bed ridden. Last minute Christmas shopped. Played settlers of Catan for four hours christmas day. Ended 2020 super excited to look for a buying internship for Summer 2021 and all things to come in 2021. Annnd with all my spontaneity of 2020, I ended the year spending 24 hours in Dallas just to see some friends for New Years ha.
I am so proud of the year I have had. I really feel like I’ve grown in so many ways. Not only started interning, but now have two under my belt. Got a lot of school credits. Started a new job, and have worked a lot. Grown my brand. Created and created and created. So happy with the relationships in my life. I think the downs were pretty down, as they usually are, but I truly love the balance life can give you if you choose to see the good outweighing the bad. I kind of like having things in control, and I do love that I made it happen to go do so many fun and exciting things this year, but also I’ve learned to appreciate when I’ve done all I can and leave the rest to what’s to come. Bring it on, 2021! Pls be fun! Also, clearly punctuality is not my new years resolution as this blog post is 11 days into the new year ha ha.
